First Trimester

This trimester is about getting to the second trimester. You may still be concealing the fact that you are pregnant. Your clothes are starting not to feel so comfortable and the bump is not quite there. Our recommendations for the first trimester:

Preggers

Preggers is great for preventing swelling and increasing circulation. Definitely a staple in your maternity wardrobe.

Also, do not forget the accessories. Embrace the power of a good bracelet and earrings. Dress up with red shoes and the perfect bag (or two).

Being pregnant is exciting and a wonderful experience. However being pregnant also gives you opportunities and challenges that you only experience as a pregnant woman. Clothing for the pregnant woman can be that – a challenge or an opportunity. In Hollywood,  pregnant moms make it seems simple and easy, however remember they have a fashion team, assistant, and a couple thousand dollars to drop on a wardrobe (and they are also given freebies too). But here are some simple steps that you can take that will ensure that you not only look fabulous but you’re avoiding any faux pas. If no one tells these things because you’re pregnant at least you’ll know these are the 5 things to avoid in when it comes to maternity fashion.

1. Waiting too long to buy maternity clothes: it’s more flattering to you to buy clothes that fit the baby bump. Your body has has moved on and so should the clothing you’re wearing. Embrace maternity clothes and let go of the pre-pregnancy clothing. (You can slowly start to buy pieces that you can use throughout your pregnancy such as cardigans, wraps)
2. Wearing maternity clothes that are too small: your baby is growing and so will your bump. What was fitting fine in the second trimester may not work for your third trimester. A slightly bigger shirt with the right details such as an empire waist shirt or dress looks (and probably feels more comfortable) more flattering than a shirt that is too small.
3. Buying shape less or tent like clothing:(if you are trying to hide your shape: it gives you no shape whatsoever) and it simply is not flattering. Celebrate becoming a mom!
4. Not wearing maternity shapewear: it’s a maternity must have. Having maternity shapewear makes everything stay in place and add support, so you look great and feel great too!

If you can adhere to avoiding this fashion maternity mistakes you’re on your way to looking great throughout your entire pregnancy.

The most recommend place for a car seat is in the middle back seat. Why? It’s the furthest from impact (windows, windshield and airbags) in a collision, which means reduced risk of injury. This is usually the safest spot.

Why not the other positions? The reason the passenger back seat position is not recommended first because the possible side impact collision. The driver back seat position is closest to on-coming traffic and possible side impact collision. The front seat passenger position has airbags, which is prohibited with a rear facing car seat.

We know it is not always ideal to place your infant car seat in the middle back seat position and here are some reasons you would not use the middle back seat.

• car seat does not securely fit/installed
• car manufacturer manual does not recommend this spot
• there is no center seat (i.e. bucket seats), so no child restraint system
• car seats that cannot fit side by side
• LATCH is not in center and you want to use LATCH (if there isn’t LATCH system, you can still use this position if their a seat belt in place for that position)
• more than one child (and since there is more than scenario depending on the number of children, you can email us for more clarification if needed)

Now that you know where to place the car seat. The next recommended step is to have it checked by a certified passenger safety technician (CPST) to make sure that it is properly installed, which is a service we provide to ensure that your baby’s safety. The new federal standards are:

• Side rails that do not form a sharp V when the product is folded. This prevents a child from strangling in the side rail
• Stronger corner brackets to prevent sharp-edged cracks and to prevent a side-rail collapse
• Sturdier mattress attachments to the play yard floor to prevent children from getting trapped or hurt

CPSC has already issued mandatory safety standards on cribs, baby walkers, infant swings and such and is moving forward to also regulate safety standards on other baby products such as infant carriers, bassinets, strollers and other baby gear.
